This Restaurant Fresh From Singapore Might Just Have The Best Thin-Crust Pizza In Manila
The thick crust versus thin crust debate between pizza critics may never get resolved. But if you’re a supporter of the latter, it’s totally understandable why!
Biting into the edges of a good thin crust pizza and hearing the shattering crunch is a pretty satisfying experience. Then there’s the slightly chewy middle to look forward to as well. And because they are slimmer, you get the advantage of being able to stuff more slices into your belly!
For the thin crust devotees of the Metro, here’s some great news: A new restaurant from Singapore has landed in Manila and they might just have the best thin crust pizza in town!
Peperoni Pizzeria has been comforting Singaporeans with their hot-off-the-oven Italian pies since 2004 and now, we can get our own platters at Uptown Place Mall in BGC. As for the thick crust enthusiasts out there, you might just find yourself converted after a meal here!
Get thin, fresh, and wood-fired pizzas at Peperoni Pizzeria
We’re used to seeing our pizzas already dolled up when they’re set on the table, but at Peperoni Pizzeria, we get to be privy to the whole cooking process! You can stand by their open kitchen and watch (or Instagram, Boomerang, Snapchat, etc.) the chefs as they roll out the dough to a dangerously thin sheet and methodically lay the toppings down before whisking the pizza away to their blazing oven.
Because they use wood-fired brick ovens to get the job done, you won’t have to wait long to eat your pizza. The oven’s fiery heat greatly cuts down the cooking time and its dome-shaped interior makes sure that the heat is evenly distributed. Their pizzas then come out looking like hot masterpieces and the crust flavored with a delicate smokiness you can’t replicate with an ordinary oven.
Aside from using the traditional Italian way of cooking pizza, most of their grocery items (like their flour, tomatoes, cheeses, and pastas) are also imported from Italy. These ingredients are used for their toppings, homemade tomato sauce, special cheese mix, and handmade pizza bases. They keep their pizzas simple and their flavors classic to let the freshness of the high-quality ingredients shine through.
But the biggest secret to their pizza is in their dough. It took them years and years to perfect the recipe but it has obviously paid off because with their special dough, they can make crusts that are light, crispy, doughy in the middle, and yet solid enough to hold up a substantial amount of toppings.
You can have your pizza either in medium, large, or if you’re really ravenous, XXL (these ginormous things are made up of twenty four square slices and can feed up to four to six famished people!)
You get to pick two flavors for your pizza if you’re ordering up the L or the XXL sizes. And the best part is, you pay the same amount for any of their fifteen flavors. This way, you can choose the flavors that you really want without having to base your decision off of price!
Soft egg, bacon, and honey are just some of the things you can have on your pizza
If you’re a repeat orderer of pepperoni or hawaiian, it’s about time you stepped up your pizza game! At Peperoni Pizzeria, you can ditch your usual, boring picks for authentic flavors that are actually found in the streets of Italy.
Their Pancetta, topped off with cured bacon, sliced tomatoes, and soft egg, is one of their bestsellers. And it’s not hard to understand why!
Before you go in for a slice, you can’t forget to pierce the egg yolk and smear the gooey mess all over the pizza. This way, the saltiness of the bacon and the freshness of the tomatoes are balanced out by the rich and creamy yolk coating.
Another favorite here is the Prosciutto Crudo di Parma, on top of which you’ll find parma ham and rocket salad. The arugula lends a nutty, slightly bitter flavor to the pizza that cuts through the fatty, buttery, and melt-in-your-mouth texture of the the parma ham. It’s a refreshing combination that doesn’t leave the palate overcloyed.
For something a little bit more familiar to Filipino taste buds, there’s the Bacon Miele. It’s the only white-based pizza on the menu and it was launched specifically for their Manila branch!
Made up of bacon, honey, fresh oregano, and gouda cheese, this one kind of plays mind games with you. The sweetness of the honey takes over the initial bite, only to be surpassed by the saltiness of the bacon and cheese. It’s an exciting push and pull of flavors!
As a side dish, you can order up the Funghi Portobello con Pollo, a whole portobello mushroom deep-fried and finished off with chicken fillets. Of course, you can’t call it an Italian meal without some pasta!
Pair your pizza with the Aglio Olio e Peperoncino, a simple entree made mouth-watering by sliced garlic, red chili, and olive oil. Or you can get yourself a comforting bowl of classic Carbonara, smothered in light cream sauce and sprinkled with sauteed bacon.
For the finale, cap it all off with their Pecan Brownie, a pecan-infused chocolate cake with a dollop of vanilla ice cream on top!
A homey hangout spot at Uptown Place Mall
A bright spectacle of yellows, oranges, and greens finished off with accents of wood, Peperoni Pizzeria gives off a warm, laid back vibe amidst the busyness of BGC. It’s an inviting space to bring your hungry friends and family to where you can sit down, get comfy, and polish off slice after slice of really good pizza!
Peperoni Pizzeria can be found at the 3/F of Uptown Place Mall, 36th St., cor. 9th Ave., Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.
